Mexico is one of the world's most diverse countries for scuba diving. The eastern side of Mexico sits in the Caribbean Sea and is the location of the Great Western Barrier Reef. This second largest of the world's reefs runs alongside the Yucatán Peninsula where you can also dive in the fascinating freshwater cenotes – shallow, underground caves formed by ancient rivers.
Over on the far west of the country and into the Pacific Ocean are two of the world's best destinations for big animal encounters.
